The Public Safety Officer will serve and provide for the public safety and protection of all Regent and CBN affiliates operating on campus. Primary responsibilities include operation of the Front Desk of the Corporate Support Building as an Armed Guard, with ancillary duties as assigned. Will be responsible to safeguard the lives and property of Regent University, CBN, and affiliates (otherwise known as the Regent/CBN Campus). Model professionalism, accountable to the best national practices of Public Safety, integrity and transparency in protecting campus constituents with a spirit of fairness, and justice. Responsible for enforcing the rules and regulations of Regent University and CBN.

Work Location: Virginia Beach, VA 

Essential duties:

• Provide primary lobby security and physical access for the Corporate Support Building.
• Input, manage, and maintain the Genetec software including all profiles and information.
• Issue visitors badges as required and ensure badges are returned once the visitation is complete.
• Record visitation of all outside guests in the Genetec software including but not limited to time of arrival and time of departure, etc.
• Verify and process all vendor access ensuring addition to Genetec database.
• Provide initial computerized authorization/credentials to contractors operating at the Chairman’s residence and Regent/CBN Campus.
• Manage and maintain a daily list of employees who come in with no Access Control badge and report that list to Tech Div. on a daily basis. Record the person`s name, EID, supervisor and date.
• Issue the Vehicle Decal information for all CBN employees and staff as directed by Tech Div. Manager.
• Observe and report suspicious or unusual activity to detect and prevent intrusion.
• Perform routine campus interior/exterior building checks to ensure safety and security as assigned.
• Respond to emergencies, protecting people and property. 
• Interact with staff and guests, providing assistance as needed.
• Provide crowd and traffic control as required, and issue Regent citations or warnings as necessary.
• Provide courier service for corporate officers for Regent and CBN as needed.
• All other duties assigned by Chain of Command and or proper authority.
• As essential personnel will be available for emergency recall.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Assumes other duties as assigned by supervisor. 
• Exposure to routine indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather.
• Duties are performed across Regent University and CBN campuses, including patrol vehicles, office settings, and on foot.
• May require extended hours and shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Essential On-Campus Personnel - Employees who, due to the nature of the services you provide, are expected to physically report to perform work on campus during inclement weather and other situations in which the normal on-campus schedule is suspended

 Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or GED required. An associate degree or a bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Candidates must have:

• Work experience in security, law enforcement, or military (Preferred)
• Ability to be qualified in the use of firearms and maintain the department minimum standards; pass departmental physical fitness test, and drug screening and random urinalysis as required
• Certified or capable of obtaining CPR and First Aid certification
• Ability to effectively make critical decisions in emergency situations, potentially lead in exigent circumstances
• Ability to act independently with minimal supervision
• Basic computer skills and ability to multi-task
• Ability to interact in a positive, professional manner with the public and all levels of management
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Must be able to operate a variety of equipment, including department issued radio and other telecommunications systems
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a good DMV record
• Must be able to meet and maintain department physical, uniform, and grooming standards
• Must meet department’s physical requirements to include appropriate vision and hearing, mental and physical standards to ensure participation in all training and job duties
• Must possess the manual dexterity and strength necessary to safely operate a firearm
• Ability to move quickly to include; running, bending, and lifting up to 150 lbs. and walking and standing for long periods of time
• Ability to complete and maintain DCJS qualified Armed Security Officer certification (training sponsored by RUPD)
• Be physically, emotionally, and mentally fit for duty, passing exams required annually or as directed

2. Conviction, guilty plea, or no contest plea of any misdemeanor sex offense, including but not limited to sexual battery under Virginia
Code §18.2-67.4 or consensual sexual intercourse with a minor 15 or older under clause (ii) of Virginia Code
§18.2-371 or any crime requiring registration in the Virginia Sex Offender Registry.
3. Conviction, guilty plea, or no contest plea of domestic assault under Virginia Code §18.2-57.2 or any offense that would be domestic
assault under the laws of another state or the United States.
4. Conviction, guilty plea, or no contest plea of any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including but not limited to petit larceny under Virginia Code §18.2-96 or any offense involving moral turpitude that would be a misdemeanor if committed in the Commonwealth.

Driving History
1. Any conviction, guilty plea or no contest plea of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, refusal to take blood or breath test,
eluding police, racing, or leaving the scene of an accident within the last 5 years.

Drugs
1. Sale of any drug listed in the drug standards and schedules set forth in Virginia Code §54.1-3443 et seq. without a valid license authorizing
sale of specified drugs. Any other distribution will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
2. Unlawful use or possession of any illegal drug, including but not limited to heroin, cocaine, hallucinogens, methamphetamine, etc. or any derivative thereof (except marijuana) within the last 5 years.
3. Illegal use or possession of anabolic steroids within the last three (3) years.

Others
1. Dishonorable discharge from any military service.
2. Untruthfulness and/or the intentional withholding of information on any application, interview, or paperwork associated with the position. Examples of intentional withholding of information would include deliberate inaccuracies or incomplete statements.
3. Intentional failure to follow the directions outlined in the testing process or relying on others to complete any portion of the testing
process.
