The Veteran Employment Coordinator (VEC) position supports Regent University's mission by addressing the career development and employment needs of military-affiliated students and alumni. This role focuses on coordinating recruiting efforts, networking opportunities, and educational programs to enhance career preparation. The VEC provides individualized support and group programming through the Military Resource Center (MRC), serving as the primary point of contact for employment opportunities.
Essential duties:
- Plan, coordinate, and implement comprehensive career services for military-affiliated students and alumni, including conducting career assessments, facilitating resume and cover letter development, aligning career goals with academic programs, and assisting in securing future employment opportunities.
- Coordinate and assist with military recruiting events by participating in community partner events, career fairs, local high school and military installation visits, hosting office hours at employment or education centers, and conducting local information sessions.
- Develop and maintain key relationships with business communities to create employment, internship, and career opportunities for Regent students, focusing on placements that align with students’ academic and career aspirations.
- Leverage networks with target industries, companies, professional associations, educational institutions, and other organizations to secure internships and employment opportunities for military-affiliated students and alumni.
- Facilitate virtual and in-person interviews by arranging connections between students and potential employers while providing coaching and preparation support as needed.
- Design and implement career training programs both on campus and online while offering regularly scheduled and tailored employment workshops, webinars, and career readiness resources.
- Organize and conduct military-specific information sessions and presentations while representing all university programs at military-related events, including job fairs, transition programs, and veteran support initiatives.
- Coordinate the activities of the Student Veterans of America (SVA) Chapter, facilitating leadership development programs, networking events, and career-building opportunities for military-affiliated students both in-person and through virtual platforms.
- Oversee the Virtual Military Resource Center (VMRC) on Regent University’s Learning Management System (i.e. Canvas) to ensure that the platform is continuously updated with relevant career resources, job postings, networking opportunities, employment guides, and other information relevant to military-affiliated students.
- Collaborate with Student Affairs and faculty to maintain open and frequent communication to ensure alignment in support services.
- Promote engagement across departments to address the unique needs of military-affiliated students in their academic and career progression.
- Maintain open and frequent communications with key stakeholders across faculty and staff at the University.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Must be a veteran (military retiree preferred); full access to military installations is highly preferred
- Must have an in-depth knowledge of all military/veteran educational benefits and programs
- Must be willing to travel frequently; some overnight travel and same-day business travel required.
- Must have a working knowledge of applicant/employment tracking systems and social media
- Must be able to maintain satisfactory driving history; driver records will be checked annually
