Head Men's Volleyball Coach

The Head Men's Volleyball Coach is a member of the Athletic Department staff and reports directly to the Director of Athletics. This role will organize and supervise all practices, games, and other workout sessions for the men’s volleyball team. Lead effectively in the instruction and coaching of student-athletes.

Work Location: Virginia Beach, VA 

Salary: $42,000 - $46,000 annually

Essential duties:

  • Assist recruiting student-athletes who are mission fit, academically solid, and athletically skilled.
  • Adhere to, support, and follow the academic standards and requirements of the university regarding the recruiting and eligibility of prospective and current student-athletes.
  • Assist men’s volleyball student-athletes in obtaining spiritual growth and track academic progress. Provide appropriate advice and assistance to help ensure the success of each student-athletes spiritual development and completed stated program of study.  
  • Report any known or suspected violations of the NCAA and/or university rules by head coach, assistant coach(es), student-athletes, staff, etc. promptly to the Director of Athletics.
  • Evidence of a thorough understanding of the rules and regulations governing intercollegiate volleyball competition and adhere to the rules and standards established by NCAA.
  • Promote community service projects for the men’s volleyball team to complete per the mission of the NCAA, Regent Athletic Department and Regent University.
  • Abide by and comply with the constitution, bylaws, and interpretations of the NCAA and university rules and regulations relating to the conduct and administration of the program.
  • Supervise assistant coach(es) in all areas including, but not limited to compliance by such coaches with NCAA and University rules and regulations.
  • Establish and maintain a frequent and transparent system of communication with the Director of Athletics, as well as the EVP for Student Life, faculty, staff, and student body as needed.
  • Flexibility in personal schedule to participate in required Athletic Department weekly staff meetings, functions and other duties as directed by the Director of Athletics.
  • Produce reports and paperwork for the local, regional and national awards.
  • Manage distribution, collection, inventory and storage, and of team uniforms and equipment. 
  • Assist Director of Athletics in the coordination and execution of travel arrangements/transportation/driving, statistics, game schedule, meals, referees/officials, equipment, facilities, etc. for all team contests.
  • Assist Director of Athletics in securing suitable practice facilities within approved budget.
  • Assist Director of Athletics in managing all aspects of the specific sport budget including team and personal travel, equipment, rental facilities, officials, security, game personnel, etc.
  • Notify in writing (and in person when appropriate) and receive approval from the Director of Athletics for all sport-related decisions, changes, and concerns including, but not limited to scheduling, facilities, budget, university, athletic department, and/or NCAA rules/standards violations, student-athlete or coach concerns, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree preferred in Sports administration or related field, or significant higher education experience
  • Two to three years of successful high school, college, or private volleyball coaching experience is required; three to five years of successful college-level coaching experience or equivalent is preferred

Candidates must have:

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively one-on-one, in small groups, and in public speaking contexts
  • Proven ability to communicate ideas and priorities effectively to promote teamwork and achieve desired results
  • Demonstrated strategic planning skills and an ability to assess the team’s competitive strengths and vulnerabilities.
  • Strong relationship with Jesus Christ. Commitment to integrating Scripture in coaching and interactions with student-athletes
  • Demonstration of humility, integrity, maturity, organizational skills, creativity, flexibility, and patience
