The Assistant Softball Coach of Women’s Softball reports to the Head Coach and the Director of Athletics. Assists in overseeing all aspects of operating a successful college level intercollegiate athletic program. All responsibilities will be under the leadership of the Head Coach and/or the Director of Athletics. 

Work Location: Virginia Beach, VA 

Essential duties:

  • Assist student-athletes in obtaining spiritual growth and track academic progress. Provide appropriate advice and assistance to help ensure the success of each student-athlete’s spiritual development and completed stated program of study.  
  • Instruction of student-athletes – teaching sport-specific skills, tactics, and techniques required per team and individualized workouts, practices, and games.
  • Report any known or suspected violations of the NCAA and/or university rules by head coach, assistant coach(es), student-athletes, staff, etc. promptly to the Director of Athletics.
  • Assist in organizing and supervising all practices, games, and other workout sessions for the team. Assist head coach in the instruction and coaching of student athletes.
  • Evidence of a thorough understanding of the rules and regulations governing intercollegiate competition and adhere to the rules and standards established by NCAA.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred 
  • Prerequisites for the Job: 
    1. One or more years of successful high school, college, or private coaching experience is preferred
    2. Proven ability to communicate effectively one-on-one, in small groups, and in public speaking contexts
    3. Proven ability to communicate ideas and priorities effectively to promote teamwork and achieve desired results
    4. Demonstrated strategic planning skills and an ability to assess the team’s competitive strengths and vulnerabilities
    5. Demonstrated skill in making strategic recommendations to enhance the team’s performance
    6. Ability to work a flexible and irregular schedule

  • Demonstration of humility, integrity, maturity, organizational skills, creativity, flexibility, and patience
