We are seeking a Part-Time PM Line Cook to support our evening dinner buffet and assist with next-day preparation. The Line Cook plays a key role in preparing meals for buffet service, à la carte orders, and grab-and-go offerings in The Ordinary Café. This role requires attention to detail, strong work ethic, and a heart for hospitality. Working under the direction of the Head Chef and Kitchen Manager, the Line Cook contributes to a clean, organized, safe kitchen while upholding the core values and mission of Regent University.

Work Location: Virginia Beach, VA

Essential duties:

  • Prepare and cook menu items in accordance with established recipes, quality standards, and portion guidelines.
  • Support both buffet and à la carte service throughout breakfast, lunch, and dinner as scheduled.
  • Execute prep work for daily service, including chopping, portioning, and storing ingredients.
  • Communicate effectively with the kitchen team to ensure timing, plating, and cleanliness are on point.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including the line, prep, and storage areas.
  • Follow food safety procedures including temperature checks, sanitation practices, and proper storage (FIFO).
  • Label and date food items correctly; assist with putting away orders and organizing storage areas.
  • Alert Head Chef or Kitchen Manager to any product shortages, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns.
  • Rotate between hot and cold food stations as needed.
  • Assist with catering functions, special events, and additional duties as assigned.
  • Participate in end-of-shift cleaning duties, including washing dishes, taking out trash, sweeping, mopping, and maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment.

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience in a commercial kitchen preferred (but we will train the right candidate).
  • Understanding of basic kitchen equipment and food safety protocols.
  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and contribute to a team environment.
  • Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  • SERV Safe Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Reliable, punctual, and respectful to all team members.
  • Flexible schedule; must be available for some evening and weekend shifts for catered and special events.

Candidates must have:

  • Team-oriented and passionate about producing quality food
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods (up to 8 hours)
  • Must be comfortable working around heat, steam, and kitchen equipment
  • Must adhere to uniform and hygiene standards, including wearing proper PPE and non-slip shoes
