The HRIS Manager is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of the human resources information system, other technology systems, or software programs/vendors. This role ensures data integrity, generates analytics for strategic decision-making, and supports HR operations through effective technology solutions. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with a strong understanding of HR processes while embracing our institution's mission and values.

Work Location: Virginia Beach, VA

Essential duties:

  • Serve as the primary administrator and subject matter expert for the HRIS platform.
  • Maintain system integrity, security, and compliance with data protection regulations.
  • In collaboration with IT, configure and customize the HRIS to meet evolving institutional needs.
  • Manage system upgrades, patches, and implementations of new modules.
  • Conduct regular audits to identify and resolve data discrepancies.
  • Maintain documentation of system processes and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline HR processes through technology solutions.
  • Partner with HR team members to optimize workflows and automation.
  • Serve as a resource for troubleshooting and resolving system issues.
  • Ensure Ellucian Banner database is maintained in an accurate and timely manner to ensure the most effective use of the system and accurate data for reporting. This includes:
    • Banner system testing
    • Reviewing and updating temporary employment statuses for accuracy and active employment, including adjunct faculty, student employees, and temporary employees.
    • Serve as second review for accurate new employee set up and benefit setup.
  • Complete employment verifications.
  • Complete or verify all reporting and surveys, including ACA reporting, CUPA-HR, IPEDS, BLS, New Hire Reporting, GCTWF Survey, internal or external reporting requests, and benefits billing reconciliation.
  • Calculate and prepare statistical information and visual data representations for VP of HR.
  • Assist with existing and new technology set up and integration.
  • Serve as department technology expert to solve HR technology or office systems issues.
  • Collaborate with IT staff and build IT staff rapport to create efficient HR operations and determine appropriate solutions and support for HR needs.
  • Provide excellent customer service to faculty, staff, administrators and outside vendors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, information systems, business administration, or related field. 3-5 years HRIS administration is required, preferably within higher education and/or working with Ellucian Banner.
  • Strong proficiency with HRIS platforms (specifically Ellucian Banner), Microsoft Office programs, Cognos reporting, AI, and multiple vendor systems or software programs for system and data management and reporting.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and data analytics

Candidates must have:

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of HR processes including recruitment, benefits, payroll, and compliance.
  • A high level of initiative.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated professional and positive image through interactions with employees at every level, vendors, and other parties served by HR. 
  • Ability to serve as an appropriate representative for the department and the university.
