Major Function/Purpose of Position: 

The Career Coach is instrumental in advancing the career development of students and alumni by providing personalized career coaching, facilitating engaging webinars and workshops, and supporting the career services team in the execution of skills development activities. This role is pivotal in offering guidance on job search strategies, conducting mock interviews, assisting with resume and CV preparation, administering assessments, and helping students solidify their career choices.

The Career Coach advances the university’s mission by equipping students and alumni with the clarity, skills, and confidence needed to pursue meaningful work and lifelong vocational development. Through individualized career coaching, skills-based workshops, and collaborative initiatives within the Center for Student Happiness, this role supports client formation, career readiness, and successful transitions into internships, employment, and graduate opportunities.

Work Location: Virginia Beach, VA

Essential duties:

  • Provide individualized, on-campus and virtual career coaching to support career exploration, decision-making, goal setting, and job search strategy
  • Coach students in resume and CV development, mock interviews, and professional self-presentation, delivering clear, actionable feedback
  • Administer and interpret career assessments to help students identify interests, values, strengths, and viable career pathways
  • Guide students in identifying internships, employment opportunities, and experiential learning aligned with their goals
  • Design and deliver engaging workshops and webinars focused on job search skills, interviewing, networking, and career readiness
  • Collaborate with Career Services staff to develop and implement initiatives that enhance student career preparedness and resource utilization

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business, communications, or a helping field (e.g., communication, human resources, psychology, social work, education or related field)
  • Prerequisites for the Job: 2+ years of experience in career services, performance coaching, or strongly related client service experience; strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to actively listen, engage, and build rapport with clients; proficiency with Microsoft 365, Google suite; demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment
